Our community garden depends on volunteer care, shared stewardship, and reliable infrastructure. To protect crops, support educational programming, and ensure long-term food security, Metchosin Grown Society is building a 7-foot wildlife-resistant perimeter fence around the garden.
This project will be designed, installed, and maintained by volunteers, with funds raised going directly toward materials and essential project costs.
By sponsoring a section of the fence, you are helping protect locally grown food and strengthening our agricultural community.
• Protects crops from deer, rabbits, and other wildlife
• Reduces food loss and replanting
• Supports educational workshops and school visits
• Strengthens long-term food security and sustainability
• Improves safety and clarity of garden boundaries
This is a one-time infrastructure investment with long-lasting benefits for the entire community.
We invite individuals, families, and businesses to support the project by sponsoring a portion of the fence. All recognition is optional.
5-Foot Section — $100

10-Foot Section — $190

Funds raised will support:
Wildlife-resistant page wire fencing
Rabbit-proof bottom mesh
Pressure-treated posts and bracing
Fasteners, tension wire, and hardware
Modest signage for donor recognition
Project contingency for material price fluctuations
All labour is contributed by community volunteers, ensuring funds are used efficiently and responsibly.
This fencing project reflects what our community does best:
people coming together to protect shared resources, grow food locally, and support one another.
Whether you sponsor a small section or a larger portion of the fence, your contribution directly supports food security, education, and community resilience in Metchosin.
Together, we can protect what we grow.
Our current temporary fencing does not adequately protect the garden beds as we have seen in recent months. Replacing it with a permanent, wildlife-resistant fence is essential to sustain and expand community food growing at this site.
The garden’s current walk-in access point is difficult to use and limits safe delivery of materials. The new fence design addresses these challenges.
The new 120-foot perimeter fence has been carefully planned to support everyday garden operations. In addition to a secure pedestrian gate for volunteers and visitors, the design includes a large service gate to allow trucks and trailers to safely deliver soil, compost, mulch, and other essential supplies. This ensures the garden remains accessible, functional, and easy to maintain as it grows.
Secure walk-in gate for volunteers and members
Large service gate for deliveries and maintenance access
Designed to integrate cleanly with the adjacent tennis court and baseball backstop
Improves the overall appearance and cohesion of the shared school field area
Designed for long-term durability and safety
